Get Paid

I love your work! Let’s get you paid for it

You're brilliant at what you do.

…And yet you still don't feel financially secure unless you're working non-stop.

Creative pros fall into one of two camps, and switch from time to time:

  • num1

Your schedule is jammed with clients, projects. Or you’ve got a demanding day job and you’re treating your business like a side-hustle. You’re making money, but if you try to add one more thing you’re going to crack. Of course the inspiring projects that got you into this in the first place keep getting pushed back.

  • num2

The way you make money is inconsistent, so you feel nervous about your finances most of the time. You teach workshops, you've created a few products, maybe published a book. You've done a lot of unpaid work and collaborations. Sometimes it pays and sometimes it doesn't. It all adds up to a lot of activity, skating close to the edge. And your own work suffers.

Both situations create the same outcome: a capacity crunch.

As a business coach for creative professionals, I help you redesign the relationship between your time and your money, so you can feel confident in your financial picture while protecting your creative life.

Capacity crunch = a broken relationship between time and money

The way creative businesses get started plants the seed of the burnout that inevitably follows.

If you want more time and the space to feel creative again, things have to shift at a fundamental level in the way you build a creative business.

That shift starts with understanding the root problem. When the money you’re making isn’t in line with the time you put in, that’s a capacity crunch.

Whether it’s truly not enough to safely get by, or it’s simply not enough to buy back your time, the default response is almost always —

Add more.

More clients

More marketing

A new income stream

A side project that might turn into something if you just put your back into it…

This response feels rational and proactive. But it makes the problem worse.

We all know money can theoretically buy back time. But here's the trap: when you're already maxed out, investing more time so you can make money so you can buy back time just digs the hole deeper.

It’s like taking a payday loan to invest in the stock market. The interest on that loan will wipe out any gains, and then some.

The hidden assumption is that time is negotiable. That you can just work harder, stay up later, squeeze it in. You can always “find” time or “make it work.”

But time isn't flexible. It's fixed and finite. And it's expensive.

Time is your most expensive raw material

For creatives, it’s easy to conceptualize materials costs in physical production: Canvas, clay, lumber.

It’s not too much of a stretch to extend that to less-concrete costs like web hosting, software costs, rent for your studio.

But no matter how many billed hours we have to pay for carpenters, or babysitters, or lawyers, we somehow fail to apply the same logic to our own time.

Your time is a concrete resource. And I don’t care if you’re a goldsmith: it is in fact your most valuable raw material.

When you treat your time as a material cost, as seriously as canvas or studio rent, the math makes every decision clearer.

This orientation gives you the power to intentionally design the relationship between time and money in your business.

So how do you actually redesign this relationship? You need a systematic way to evaluate what you're offering and what it actually costs you, in both time and money.

That’s what you can do with the Ground Truth Framework: a systematic, repeatable, logical way to figure out exactly what to offer and what to charge. More than that, Ground Truth gives you a lens on every aspect of your business so you can tune it to your needs.

I walk you through it in this free class:

The Ground Truth Framework

The Ground Truth Framework is the methodology that pulls together everything in this section. Get the full picture before you dive in: how the framework works, what the three components are, and how to use it as a diagnostic for your own business.
