Comics: Philosophy and Practice

Pssst, I’ve got some updates:

I live-tweeted most of University of Chicago at the Comics: Philosophy and Practice! A few people have asked for a link-able, reusable version of this documentation, so here it is

I was also in the midst of work on a 4-page comic reportage on the Comics: Philosophy and Practice conference, that featured a series of panels with some of the greatest cartoonists of the modern era. And as anyone who’s ever done journalistic comics (and probably journalism of any kind) knows, most of your best material ends up on the cutting-room floor. So here, therefore, is a glance at my cutting-room floor.

Before the event:

I’ll be at the University of Chicago this weekend for this absolutely insane comics event

You can find the actual event schedule here. I will be “covering” the event in comics form for the U of C Magazine, for which I’ve worked off and on for years doing non-fiction comics. I’ll post that comic here when it’s done.

Here’s the lineup in (more or less) order of appearance:

  • Art Spiegelman
  • Aline Kominsky-Crumb
  • Justin Green
  • Carol Tyler
  • Phoebe Gloeckner
  • Joe Sacco
  • Charles Burns
  • Dan Clowes
  • Seth
  • Chris Ware
  • Françoise Mouly
  • Ben Katchor
  • Ivan Brunetti
  • Lynda Barry
  • Gary Panter
  • Robert Crumb

Will any of the panel discussions be uploaded to Youtube?
