Comics: Philosophy and Practice

poster by Chris WareI’ll be at the University of Chicago this weekend for this absolutely insane comics event. I mean, please don’t let there be a terrorist attack on the NATO conference (also in Chicago this weekend!), because we’d lose the entire top tier of American cartoonists.

Here’s the lineup in (more or less) order of appearance:

Art Spiegelman
Aline Kominsky-Crumb
Justin Green
Carol Tyler
Phoebe Gloeckner
Joe Sacco
Charles Burns
Dan Clowes
Chris Ware
Françoise Mouly
Ben Katchor
Ivan Brunetti
Lynda Barry
Gary Panter
Robert Crumb

…You see what I mean. You can find the actual event schedule here. I will be “covering” the event in comics form for the U of C Magazine, for which I’ve worked off and on for years doing non-fiction comics. I’ll post that comic here when it’s done.

But if you don’t have tickets to this event, don’t despair: there’s a free webcast, and I’ll be live-tweeting as much as I can (follow @jccabel, hashtag #comicscon. generic hashtag: I didn’t come up with it). Wish me luck!
