Friends, it gives me a lot of pleasure to announce that the first moment I put my hands on a copy of Trish Trash: Rollergirl sur Mars (vol. 1 of 3), I was standing outside a comics museum, watching a roller derby demo. Thomas Ragon, my editor, had put a lot of pressure on the Dargaud studio to get the book printed two months before the official release date, so I could be standing there on the chais Magelis, wiping a light drizzle off the fresh, offset-printing-ink smelling pages.

It’s beautiful! I can’t wait for everyone to see it. You can preorder the book on amazon.fr or fnac.com. (Shipping in France is basically free, but I have no idea what shipping to the US is. If anyone orders one, let me know and I’ll update.)

Yes, it’s in French! But don’t worry, English-speaking readers. Here’s an “untranslation” of this book!  (I.e., the script in English). I’ve also got a 10-page excerpt in English!

I was a guest of the very new Rayon Fantastique festival, which is primarily devoted to showing horror and sci-fi film, but also invites comics artists to be guests.

It’s a great little homegrown festival, with a week of film screenings (including an all-night horror fest on Saturday night) and comics signings on the weekend. In honor of Trish Trash, le Rayon Fantastique invited Angoulême Roller Derby (aka Brain Damage) to do a demo on the plaza in front of the comics museum and bookstore. Yes, of COURSE there is a derby team here in Angoulême. What do you think this is, a backwater?

Rayon Fantastique also ran a workshop where you could learn to play JAM, the roller derby card game. Rules exist in English too! I’m in the process of helping them with English subtitles on their explanatory videos. Buy this game! It’s fun, and helps you understand derby, as a bonus.

The very first Trish Trash I ever signed was a gift for a derby girl named Hannibal Plankton from her mother. I’m so new at doing dedicaces on this book that I forgot Trish’s mole. Hannibal, if you read this, stop by a signing some time and I’ll add a mole for you.

Great week, and such a fantastic feeling to have Trish in my hands at last.
